August 23, 2024 – SOFI TUKKER, the GRAMMY-nominated, genre-defying duo comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, have unleashed their new third studio album BREAD. LISTEN HERE. BREAD is the band’s most daring, innovative and infectious body of work to date.
In addition to being a symbol of abundance, energy, sensuality and community, BREAD is an acronym for “Be Really Energetic And Dance.” It’s an invitation for a shared experience to “break bread” through musical connection. A sonic pleasure dome of dance-laden bangers, BREAD blends house, Brazilian funk, drum and bass, bossa nova, pop, Portuguese poetry, and, most crucially—fun. Special guests on the album include Kah-Lo, MC Bola and Channel Tres.
The band comment, “The BREAD world is vivid – a celebration of life and sensuality intended to give the listener energy, just like carbs. Bread is also something people all around the world use to connect, gather and share. We’re reminded that it feels amazing to lose your inhibitions, feel energized and dance. The creative thread throughout BREAD explores togetherness, the magic of the Brazilian essence, which the music is inspired by, as well as a playful surrealism that says: live life to the fullest, eat all the BREAD, and BE REALLY ENERGETIC AND DANCE.”
SOFI TUKKER also dropped the new music video for “Woof” featuring special guest GRAMMY-nominated dance-pop sensation Kah-Lo. Watch it HERE. Shot on a semi-trailer rig cruising the streets of their home base in New York City, the clip is a high-energy, irresistible jaunt. With live performance vignettes, the video also features cameos by Brazilian-America model & TV host Luca Castellani, Peloton instructors Hannah Corbin and Rebecca Kennedy, dance group Bob’s Dance Shop (a fixture of SOFI TUKKER live shows), celebrity tattoo artist Trudy Lines of Bang Bang giving Tucker a tattoo, and NYC members of the SOFI TUKKER’s fan community The Freak Fam.
Sophie comments on the track, “We always knew ‘Woof’ was special. Fans may recognize it from when we DJ ’ed it in our live stream in 2020. We added a cool guitar sample, plus some live guitar, and Kah-Lo slays her verse. There are actually five languages on the track: Portuguese, French, German, English, and Kah-Lo is speaking Yoruba. It’s very down-the-middle SOFI TUKKER. Tucker’s vocal, my Portuguese, the electric guitar—it feels true to what we’ve always done.” Tucker adds, “This is our personality. Sophie sings in four languages. I sing in a sarcastic deep voice. It has a guitar riff. It kind of reminds me of ‘Purple Hat,’ which is our biggest song, though ‘Woof’ is unique. It features our friend Kah-Lo, who’s an amazing Nigerian artist, and one of my favorite voices.”
Kah-Lo adds, “I loved collaborating with Sophie and Tucker on this song. We’ve done so much throughout our careers together but never a song. They’re my favorite people to work with in any capacity.”
Additional highlights on BREAD include “Hey Homie,” “Throw Some Ass,” which has racked up 21 million streams, and “Spiral,” with the music video co-starring Heidi Klum. SOFI TUKKER spoke exclusively to Rolling Stone about “Spiral” who called the video “freeing.”
BREAD’s decadent album cover was shot by visual artist and fine art photographer Rob Woodcox , who captures Sophie wearing a custom gown (by Chris Habana) made entirely out of bread in front of the ornate Palácio das Laranjeiras, the stunning residence of the Governor of Rio de Janeiro. The setting also served as the backdrop for the wildly colorful and “cheeky” video for “Throw Some Ass.”
SOFI TUKKER’S fall North American headline tour will be their biggest to date, with Confidence Man and Shermanology supporting. SOFI TUKKER’S live show was described as “electrifying” by Entertainment Weekly and “explosive” by Rolling Stone.
